A twisted tale of blood ties, revenge and rodents told with Polytoxic’s emotionally shameless physicality.

The Rat Trap is a new work under construction by Polytoxic and directed by Anni Davey.  This is a hybrid cabaret work, part circus, part vaudeville theatricality. The aesthetic is driven by the mashing of forms, from hip-hop dance apache, to aerial Siamese twin routines and Polytoxic's unique pop-traditional dance style. The world of The Rat Trap is underpinned by a lush narrative, that adds emotional and thematic intensity to the spectacle and showcases the skills of each performer.  Inspired by the cabaret scene of Harlem in the 1920s, the show creates an intoxicating world for the audience, underpinned by a melodramatic narrative that adds emotional intensity, pathos and humour. The world has an electric performance energy, fuelled by the mixing of forms and the charisma of each performer. Ultimately, the show is a secret history of transgressive performance, where cultures and performance forms mix and collide.

‘...a show I’d already pay money to see...This is circus meets dance meets vaudeville, delivered with incredible energy.  The six performers are sexy as all hell and the vibe is seedy bordello...this is physical theatre with characters and story at its heart’ ourbrisbane.com

‘The mix of talents twists intricacy and depth into the performance.’ lifemusicmedia.com

THE RAT TRAP is under construction and is scheduled to premiere in 2012. A showing of the work in progress took place at Brisbane Powerhouse, World Theatre Festival in February 2011.
